Biography
Born in 1979 in Paris. Lives and works in Paris.
Tanc has already exhibited his work worldwide. What sets him apart is the uniqueness of his style, a characteristic that becomes clearer when you learn that Tanc grew up surrounded by graffiti. He believes that street art is ephemeral and that the act itself is more important than the result. For him, "being an artist is a way of life"; the commitment must be total and integrity absolute.
In the early 2000s, he focused on studio work and immediately distinguished himself from traditional graffiti artists with his line-based approach. A quest for synthesis. First of his name, then of tags in general, then of people, music, and finally of his favorite subject: life.
Primarily based on line, his work doesn't strive for perfection but rather spontaneity. It's his state of mind that defines its density and rigor. His heartbeat drives his arm like a metronome; he mustn't try to control this flow but simply understand the composition that emerges, a balance between his conscious and unconscious mind.
He composes his music and his canvases spontaneously. Whether dense or light, rigorous or deconstructed, Tanc doesn't play; he lives his art. He signs his canvases "Tanc" just as he has signed walls with his tags since adolescence. This discipline is first and foremost the instinctive outlet for a need for expression: he reclaims urban space by forcefully shouting his name to the city. Soon, the letters disappear, and Tanc embarks on an abstract formal exploration. By focusing his work on line and color, he renews classical pictorial research by confronting it with the raw energy of street art: the predominance of action, the perfection of the gesture, the acceptance of chance, and the expression of a strong singularity. Above all, his works are striking for their intensity, their musicality, and the vibration of light and textures. The artist's action, energy, and emotion touch the viewer in the most sensual, intimate, and immediate way.
