Hassan Laamirat

Hassan LAAMIRAT is a Moroccan sculptor who in addition to his talent is a warm and enthusiastic man; Handicapped since childhood following an illness, he grew up with a wheelchair to which we do not even pay attention when we meet him and when we see him move from one work in creation to another because with his success for several years, he now works with a dozen assistants ironworker.

He draws each model himself and supervises all the details and intervenes with the blowtorch on all his works

He uses mainly recycled metal parts that some guys collect for him every week in the scrap metal district of Marrakech. It is mainly mechanical parts of bicycles, motorcycles, cars and old tools, he uses sprockets, chains, tool keys, locks, bearings, springs, bolts and nuts, ventilation grids, spark plugs and even shock absorbers, tank parts or gas bottles.

Only he can capture the essence, movement and spirit of each of the animals he creates, and each work is unique; the use of small pieces of metal requires considerable work but allows him to work on the details to express with great sensitivity elements such as the carriage of a horse's head for example.

These works are truly upcycling, the assembly of scrap metal and mechanical parts giving a new life to this waste by sublimating the sculpture of an animal; Hassan is thus what we can call an "eco-creator".

Hassan shows us how human imagination and creativity can create true works of art from recycled waste.

All his first works were life-size representations of animals. But following numerous requests, he agreed to create, for example, small horses. His busts of women and men have an incredible success because they are very affordable.

His universe extended to representations of prehistoric animals or extraterrestrials and robots from science fiction movies or comic books.
