PARIS - France

The gallery is established in a building emblematic of the history of Paris and of l’Odéon, a district rich with fine arts and publishing houses. Owned by the same family since its construction in 1820, it housed a painting academy before becoming home to the first Parisian artists’ studios where lived Gustave Doré, Antonio de la Gandara and James Whistler – who painted the portrait of Robert de Montesquiou there – and later, Yves Brayer. The place also boasted writers and poets, since Verlaine, Anatole France or Leconte de Lisle were regulars before Robert Doisneau came to study his art in the studio of his master André Vigneau, a pioneer in editorial photography.

Two years ago, the first gallery dedicated to art and gardens opened its doors in a bucolic setting at the heart of l’Odéon.

An innovative endeavour, Jardins en Art is the first venue in Paris to bring together the art and garden worlds for its visitors, some prized values of our contemporary lifestyle.
