Emmanuel Suchet was born on July 22, 1952 in Tours. Very early on, he was drawn to drawing and attended the School of Art in the city of Valence. His university studies and the long professional training that ensued led him to invest in photography with an idea that would be taken up later in his painting: Beauty is not linked to the object photographed itself, but by the effect it provides to the viewer of the work. They thus become aware of the effects of light, of contrasts, of the importance of value relationships and of framing. He resumed drawing and then worked, in 1996, at the Center d'Arts Plastiques in Villefranche-sur-Saône, where he met the artist Isabelle The, and the Lyon painter Hubert Munier. He frequents his studio, enriches himself there with his acute sensitivity and his taste for the contiguity of universes. In the canvases of Emmanuel Suchet, we can see the influence of classical and modern painting. He himself says his admiration for the current of German expressionism such as the pictorial movement of the Blaue Reiter. He particularly appreciates W. Kandinsky, at his beginnings, who knew how to detach the colors of the conventions and give them a strong expressiveness. He also experiences, because of the strength of his splashes of color, a particular attraction for Nicolas de Staël who defined himself as an “abstract figurative”. By observing the work of Emmanuel Suchet, we discover an art where the simplicity of the line does not lose sight of the possible complexity of the painted object.
