Presentation
In his new series, Patrick Cornillet painted the entire surface of the painting (wooden box painted white) while until 2013, architectural elements were taken from their environment and reconstituted in the form of separate objects whole on white background. Where austerity was the order of the day in the previous series, a real work of refinement, here the buildings dialogue with their environment, other colors emerge. When it comes to a detail of a construction, this is the fundamental constituent of a whole which encompasses it. In addition to the infinite nuances of concrete, which make us aware of the richness of the material and the traces left by man and time, the work on light is particularly successful. The shadows are beautifully treated, bringing volume and contrast to the scene which intrigues us and captures our gaze. Even if the architectures seem austere, the spaces seeming uninhabited, dehumanized, this very mastered work emerges an incredible force, a particular poetry, a bewitching mysticism. It should be noted that the paintings are all painted on elegant white wooden boxes, giving the "canvas" the status of an object. Patrick Cornillet has exhibited with the Gallery at Art Paris, Scope Basel, Miami, Art Copenhagen, Slick Paris and Brussels, as well as on numerous occasions at St-Art Strasbourg.
