Jacek Rykala (b. 1950)

Painter, professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice, poet and film director. Diploma in 1976. Jack Rykala works have been presented around the world in many solo and group exhibitions. As one of very few Polish contemporary artists, he had a monograph exhibition at the National Museum in Krakow (2002).

Winner of numerous awards and honors First prize in the National Painting Competition (Katowice 1980), the Grand Prix of the Festival of Polish Painting in Szczecin (1980, 1988), awards of the National Exhibition of Painting "Bielska Jesien" (Bielsko-Biala in 1978, 1980), award for Internationale Kunstbiennale "Seetal" in Switzerland (1985), Award of the City of Sosnowiec for artistic activity for the year 1992.

He was awarded the Gold Cross of Merit and the Silver Medal of Merits for culture- Gloria Artis.

His works are in the collections of the National Museums in Warsaw, Krakow, Poznan, Szczecin, the Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Silesia in Katowice, the Museum of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, the city's museums in Sosnowiec, Jaworzno and Chorzow, Art Center "Studio " in Warsaw, collection Volker Feierabend designed for the Sprengel Museum in Hanover and in private collections in Poland and abroad.
