Walter Stöhrer

From May, 4 to May, 27 2017

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

The German painter Walter Stöhrer (1937-2000) initially a graphic designer has embraced the New Figuration movement with his paintings. Influenced by the CoBrA movement, Pollock's "psychoanalytic drawings," or Dubuffet, he develops in his painting and engraving a rapid, furious gesture between composition and spontaneity.

If his paintings come to mind immediately, his more graphic creations, especially his engravings, must not be omitted. His work remains resolutely unique in the art of the twentieth century and had a great influence on the artistic creation of the time.

Between 1962 and 2000, he won numerous prizes in Germany, France and Italy. His works are exhibited in many Museums and Institutions at U.S.A., in Germany and Denmark. In 1999, the Foundation was created in its name.
