Mask 2.0

From September, 16 to October, 14 2017

Tarek continues the exploration of the "Masque" he initiated in 2010.

In 2016, after his return from stay in Cameroon, he customize masks as well as paintings. He proposes for the artistic re-entry of the gallery a version 2.0 fusion between ancestral tribalism and modernity.

For this exhibition, Tarek thus synthesizes more than 10 years of research through his Geometrik paths that one finds in his works for several years. He associates with it the universality of the mask and challenges us: is it only a free form of figurative naturalism, a symbolic object? A decorative object? No doubt a plastic creation that Tarek transfigured in pictorial work on canvas or on a wall echoing then parietal art.

Perhaps his research refers to the urban artist, hidden and anonymous. The mask becomes its mirror signature of the tag. William Buller Fagg, an African art historian from Nigeria, had said about the mask "All objects to which the name "mask" is to be attributed can be defined in two words: they mask. This means that they hide or suppress identity." But if the mask hides, then what does it help us discover in exchange?

The vernissage will propose a live performance of Tarek.
The exhibition will run from September 16 to October 14, 2017.
The gallery is open on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 16:30 to 19:00 and by appointment.
