Presentation
Tarek continues to explore the "Mask" he initiated in 2010. In 2016, after his return from Cameroon, he customizes masks as well as canvases. For the artistic re-entry of the gallery, he offers a version 2.0 fusion between ancestral tribalism and modernity. For this exhibition, Tarek thus synthesizes more than 10 years of research through in particular his Geometrik paths that we find in his works for several years. He associates the universality of the mask with it and challenges us: is it only a free form of figurative naturalism, a symbolic object? A decorative object? Undoubtedly a plastic creation that Tarek transfigures into a pictorial work on canvas or on a wall echoing cave art. Perhaps his research refers to the urban artist, hidden and anonymous. The mask becomes its mirror signature of the tag. William Buller Fagg, art historian of black Africa, specialist of Nigeria had said about the mask "All the objects to which the name of" mask "must be attributed can be defined in two words: they mask. This means that they hide or suppress the identity. ". But if the mask hides, then what does it make us discover in return? The opening will feature a live performance by Tarek. The exhibition will run from September 16 to October 14, 2017. The gallery is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and by appointment.
