M1 Fine Art hosts the RBA in an exhibition showcasing the Best of British.

This truly is the cream of the cream showing off their very best work so visitors will be able to enjoy a varied
selection of art sure to catch the interest of all. Enjoy oil paintings, watercolours, sculpture, printwork and more
from some of the most respected artists working in Britain today.

During a time of national uncertainty, this exhibition focuses on the all the wonderful positives that Britain has to offer the art world today, as it has done throughout history.

The UK has a rich history of success and excellence in the art world, dating back many centuries, however oftentimes artists have recounted feelings of isolation or a lack of assistance in their chosen careers. In 1823, a small group of talented individuals met and formed ‘The Society Of British Artists’ in order to offer support
and advice to each other to counteract this and help keep the country at the forefront of artistic development.

In Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee Year of 1887, under the leadership of James McNeill Whistler, the Society was granted ‘Royal’ status and became ‘The RBA’. Whistler raised the profile of the Society hugely by setting standards of acceptance, which attracted the attention of not only London’s aristocracy and fashionable society, but also of both Monet and Alfred Stevens, who became Honorary Members.

In the years that followed, the Society attracted many painters and sculptors of note including Walter Sickert, Philip de László, LS Lowry, Henry Moore, Peter Greenham, Sir Roger de Grey, Carel Weight and Colin Hayes.

Today the society boasts just over 100 of the UK’s top painters, sculptors and printmakers as members, all possessing the highest levels of skill and competence in their chosen fields. RBA exhibitions guarantee that no matter what your preferred subject matter, style, medium, colour palette, size or budget, everyone will be sure to
find a work of art they fall in love with.
