For his first solo exhibition at the Atelier Piece Unique, Christophe Faso unveils his recent works on paper and canvas around two series entitled “Les Passerelles charnelles” and “Chimères”. “The axes of my work are the body and the human condition. After painting in material, I wanted to return to simplicity, to the essential, to favor the strength of the line and the drawing. The works are indeed striking with their graphic energy. With a simple piece of wood dipped in India ink, the artist draws vigorous lines to bring out silhouettes on the white of the paper. Spots of bright colors come together with the black line, in a sensual and expressive dance. “These works explore an in-between that is both abstract and figurative. The Passerelles charnelles series is inspired by important moments in life, such as motherhood, birth, but also events more linked to current events such as emigration and terrorist attacks. These themes are not always identifiable on first reading. Everyone is free to their own interpretation. “I open up avenues for reflection, without ostentation, with a positive, dignified approach…” For the Chimères, the second series exhibited at the Atelier Piece Unique, Christophe Faso takes us into a more dreamlike universe. It is a very recent work undertaken after the death of the artist's father. “In these small formats, I wanted to create more intimate works. I reveal shapes through collages of pieces of torn paintings. A half-animal, half-human bestiary is born from these spontaneous assemblages. A new universe is created from chaos. A touch of humor and gaiety brightens up each creation.
