In spring 2018, Galerie Openspace presents an event exhibition. Nicolas Chenus and Samantha Longhi have decided to highlight Miss Van, a historical artist, considered one of the greatest figures of contemporary international urban art. Looking back on the female artist's fifteen-year career, this retrospective exhibition shows a selection of her paintings and drawings with heightened sensuality, from 2003 to 2018. Having started to paint with a brush on the walls of Toulouse in the 1990s , Miss Van is considered one of the major artists of the international contemporary urban art movement. She has been living in Barcelona for several years now and exhibits regularly in the United States, in particular in California. The pictorial richness of her work and the evolution of her research have led her to develop over time numerous series that have taken shape through her inspirations. We have sometimes assimilated her to the current of Pop Surrealism, but we have to face the facts, Miss Van is a unique and unclassifiable artist. Her work is infinitely rich and this is the reason why starting a collaboration with this immense artist could only be done in the form of a retrospective. The desire to bring together a selection of works from 2003 to 2018 is a commitment from gallery owners; Nicolas Chenus and Samantha Longhi wanted to make this strong artistic proposal and thus retrace fifteen years of career. By articulating the exhibition around the major series of Miss Van (Atame, Bailarinas, Princesas, Twinkle, Still a Little Magic, ...) presented through the four different rooms of the gallery, visitors will be able to (re) discover the plurality of this work of heightened sensuality.
