Combining present and past, Solène Ballesta's work speaks to us of the feminine in that it contains both more ephemeral and more imperishable. "Evanidis" (which is doomed to disappear in Latin), constitutes a link between a series of women of various origins and their favorite objects which characterize them as a person. From this relationship, both biographical and intimate, the artist orders the arrangement and frames an image that she retouches to sublimate it. These portraits reflect all the beauty of this fleeting moment. A moment naturalized by photography which borrows from European painting its reflections on vanities and visual impact. The photo records the subject that no longer exists and captures through the objects witnesses that will remain. Of these two entities, Solène draws up a diptych in which the two separate parts complement each other. The composition dances between the photogenic and the pictorial, playing with artistic ages: graphic subtlety deliberately creates confusion. Everything is converted and mixed in the same space where drapes on several planes distinctly recall the history of a previous painting. Much more than bringing still life back to the forefront, Solène Ballesta's diptychs bring together our heritage and our contemporary world. She brings to her compositions a careful and divine realization, in the image of the attachment and the closeness forged with each of her models.
