PLANTARIUM The Garbatella and its flora are a well-kept Roman secret. Unique and exotic district of Rome - founded almost 100 years ago (in 1920) - it is known for its land-based architecture. Originally inhabited by colonialists and their families, the area is teeming with lush plants - brought in by veterans of the Italian colonial wars in Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea and Libya. Although Italian filmmaker and actor Nanni Moretti explored the neighborhood at Vespa in his 1993 film, Caro Diario (Dear Diary) - giving the neighborhood a place in the collective consciousness, the Garbatella remains a hidden treasure. With the PLANTARIUM series, Cocco offers a glimpse of this treasure by revealing its flora, vegetation and fascinating green spaces.
