Born in 1944 - Australia
Nanyuma Napaganti is an aboriginal artist born in Australia, in the community of Kiwirrkurra in the Western desert. Her birth date remains uncertain... she believes it was between 1940 and 1944. Her brothers an sisters are renowned artists as well.
She is one of the first Pintupi women to become a painter. In 2000, during the inauguration of the Olympic games in Sydney, she danced with other women from Kiwirrkurra.
Her paintings evoke the aboriginal culture and the traditional stories of her community, which has been passed on to its members from generation to generation. The details and the bright colors which dominates her pieces allow her to represent the history of her ancestors, a history of which she speaks thanks to her art.
Nanyuma Napaganti's pieces are often exhibited in Australia, specially in Sydney.
