Harold David has been painting since the age of 12. He was raised in Detroit and grew up with a single mother who worked in a factory. She was a glamour puss and he started painting with her make up and nail polish. He is a self taught painter.
His first solo painting show, "Beauty and the Apocalypse", sold out at Day Gallery in 2019. He has also shown at Sydney Fringe Festival and currently has an exhibition at Day Gallery titled: "20/Twenty in One Eye".
Harold is also one of Australia's premier portrait photographers . He studied at the Australian Centre for Photography. His 20 plus years as a photographer informs his painting. His sense of composition, gradient, and palette cross over between painting and photography.
He has exhibited throughout Australia at AGNSW, Lewers Bequest, Carriageworks, Blacktown and ACP. His work has also been shown throughout Japan. Harold also was awarded the National Portrait Prize, peoples choice winner for his photo of Bob Hawke. He now is a full time abstract painter.
