Bilal Bahir was born in Baghdad 1988 and currently lives and works in Namur, Belgium. His works draw their strength from the experience of the artist who grew in a country torn by war.
He graduated in 2008 from the Institute of Fine Arts, Baghdad, where he studied sculpture. He continued his sculpture studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Namur. Bilal use in his art a variety of mixed media, installations, video, sculptures, collages, drawings, and various other objects. The work of Bilal bahir revolves around a question on the origins, the roots. This theme related to his personal history,evokes his exile of Iraq and its cultural and familial uprooting.
His artistic work is like a memory in which he freezes his memories but it is also a way to stay connected to his native culture, traditions and solidarity towards those who live still there.
