Born in 1945 - Belgium
Bob Verschueren is a self-taught visual artist; he was born in Etterbeek in 1945.
His career started at the end of the ?60s.
At that moment he was working in oil painting and he was already showing an interest in nature through the themes he addressed.
In the late-70s, he stops painting traditionally for a while and he shows an interest in land art, producing his "Wind paintings" his "Light paintings".
The "Wind paintings" are the result of pigments scattered on the beach or in other ordinary places and carried by the wind that leaves its mark in the landscape; this way the texture and color of the ground are transformed. The painting are ephemeral and their track can only be kept by photographing these transformations.
The "Light paintings" are a reflection of nature confronted to light.
These encounters with the forms of nature draw the artist to dedicate exclusively, starting in the 80s, to the use of natural materials, and especially vegetal ones in his practice.
Nature is a constant source of inspiration and allows him to work using a method that is adapted to his practice: ?I need a part of uncertainty, the chance to be surprised. Working with natural elements involves no risk to get bored by controlling everything?.
