Gaiska Torrealba

He spent his youth between London ans Venezuela and after traveling around the world, he has been living in Antwerp, Belgium for the last twenty five years… « Antwerpen is my home town », says Gaiska. 

This Hungarian-Venezuelan influence has been an important part of Gaiska’s life, as well in his youth as in his present life… Gaiska studied in the well known Academy of Fine Arts « Frederico Brandt » in Caracas, Venezuela. After his studies, he travels for several years thru Asia, North Africa, North America, Middle East, Europe and there after he studied drawing in Belgium and England. 

He moved to Amsterdam and studied at the Rietveld Academy. Then, he moved to London where he worked and stayed until he decided to settle in Antwerp where he started working at het Nieuwe Internationaal Cultureel Center (NICC) with world reknowed artist, Jan Fabre, for several years. While working at the NICC, he also made contact with other Antwerp artists, such as : Luc Tuymans, Guillaume Bijl, Vandekerckhoven and Felipe Aguirre… 

As a result of these regular visits and discussions, Gaiska progressively found his own artistic voice. After selling exclusively to private collectors, his first solo public exposition took place on October 2007. In the work of Gaiska, the Human figures and his emotions, doubts, pain, joy and power play a central role in his works, constantly looking for their inner dimensions.
