Rostand Pokam

Born in: 1984

Rostand Pokam, the painter from Cameroon, was born in 1984. He studied painting and visual arts at the Mbalmayo Institute of Artistic Training, followed by the history of African arts at the University of Yaoundé I. He is involved with a dozen studios and artistic residencies focused on cartoon drawing, easel painting, contemporary art, digital photography and cultural management. He is also a member of research groups, and manages the interior decoration and visual design company, MOK STUDIO.

His figurative artwork depicts colourful urban landscapes, and raises social issues. He portrays modern life and everyday scenes, whilst endlessly experimenting with visual arts, focusing on contrast, depth, harmony and balance.

He has around twenty group exhibitions under his belt (in Cameroon and elsewhere), from displays at the Cameroon National Museum in 2006, to the Novotel Njamena hotel in Chad, and the Venice International Exhibition in 2017 (where he represented Cameroon), not forgetting the opening of the Yaoundé National Gallery in 2017.
