Presentation

The artist Gabrielle Gendron questions through her paintings the relationship between man and animal. Studying screen printing and the arts, she grew up surrounded by horses, dogs, cats, sheep etc. The questions that arise from her works evoke those asked by the philosopher Elisabeth de Fontenay: do animals have a reason, is man an animal, is the consumption of animal meat normal, can animals feel emotions ? Gabrielle Gendron is particularly fascinated by the dominant relationship between humans and animals, which coexists with protectionism and commitment to the animal cause. His childish works bring together a man and an animal in a way that is sometimes complicated because of the difference in scales. Sometimes the animal even mixes with humans to create a hybrid being, isolated on a plain background, blurring any spatial notion. She takes inspiration from old photographs and portraits to fix the subject, then she draws and paints them, sometimes introducing gold leaf and textiles to create texture.
