Presentation

Multimedia artist Kim Rugg dismantles everything from newspapers to cereal boxes to postage stamps—only to put them back together in new arrangements. Her process, which is one of collage and reappropriation, often results in works that subvert authority: front-page stories are reduced to gibberish, two-dimensional advertisements suddenly take up physical space.

Begun at the Royal College of Art in London, where the artist still lives, Rugg's rearranging of mediated information is as funny as it is rebellious. Her works are included in the permanent collections of the National Gallery in London and the Museum of Contemporary Art in San Diego.
