You Min

Born in 1965 - China

Born in Wuhan in 1965, Min You is an established artist who has had numerous shows in China. You Min uses landscape painting as a main method to explore the relationship between the artwork and the art concept.

He believes that the paintings that the spectators see are a kind of mirrors to contemplate behaviors in an artistic ways, to reflect new forms, new thinking patterns in the context of a multi-cultural society. The conflicts between the technical strengths of expressionism and the slight illusory atmosphere generate the force at the instant.

The truth of reality versus the imaginary and the virtual, the expression of emotions versus the control of the senses, which come from the survival instinct, the spiritual needs versus the individual comfort, generated in the process of painting, are the reasons why You Min loves to paint. Taking inspiration from Chinese traditional painting, and putting it in contrast with a frame that he paints, not only does the artist emphasize the physical limits of painting, its territory, but he also makes it a real symbol, an icon.

The brush strokes, floating between mountains and streams, express both the visual and psychological experiences of the traveler. You Min seeks a way to define and reflect on contemporary art through the combination of Chinese traditional landscape painting and Western Expressionism.
