"Aleka" Patricia Castellanos is a Colombian sculptor. She lives and works in her studio in Bogotá. After living in Mexico 4 years, where she specializes in the technique of Cartapesta with a master in the mexican capital in paper mache. It consists in modeling characters with recycled paper and molding by hand, unify everything with glue tuntil to create surreal figures, painted with acrylic and many colors. The 'alebrijes created with a lot of colorful details, represent mythological animals, a Mexican tradition that comes from Pedro Linares in 1936 during one of his dreams. In the morning he materialized his creations, and they became very famous. Today they are part of the cultural heritage in Mexico.

Aleka (his stage name), with her characteristic sense of humor and joy, produces medium sized sculptures very original, "alebrijes" and "Catrinas" Mexican tradition that represents Colombian social reality to awaken the consciousness of people. Patricia Castellanos is based psychologist, that's the reason of the artistic and very analytical overview on her creations influenced by her entourage.
