José Manuel Fors

Born in 1956 - Cuba


José Manuel Fors was born in 1956 in Havana, Cuba.

He graduated from the Academia Nacional de Bellas Artes San Alejandro, Cuba, in 1976. He continued his studies at the Museology Institute in Havana, in 1986.

In 1999, he is awarded a residency at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Alberta, Canada. Works of José Manuel Fors have been acquired by the following institutions:
Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Havana, Cuba ; Fototeca de Cuba ;
Casa de las Américas in Havana, Cuba ; the Museum of Art in Fort Lauderdale, Florida; the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, California; the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston or the Fundación Museo de Bellas Artes in Caracas, Venezuela.

In 1989, José Manuel Fors won the gold medal at the 49th International Photography Salon in Japan. In 1999, he was decorated with the Distinction for National Culture in Havana, Cuba.
