Eline Meyer

Eline Meyer is a Dutch artist, working with modern media. Her short films are shown all over the world at art film & video festivals. From the films she takes stills to create new images. Each still is reworked with various media to a new “snapshot”. All unique, but forming part of a story. Her films refer to the music videos of the ‘80’s in form, colors and animated elements.

On her 14th she knew she wanted to be an artist, stimulated by her art teacher. In that period she started to combine photos and paintings that were exhibited at her high school. The works were received very well and showed her that she could express herself and tell her story in so many forms, using visual art as a medium.
Meyer started working as a professional artist in the early 90’s and has produced during her career paintings, drawings, films, objects and prints all based on her own imaginary world. Her first film, ‘Like’, was shown in 2012 at the Holland Animation Film Festival in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Since then her work has been shown in China, Mexico, Peru, Australia, the Netherlands, Spain and many others.

That imaginary world goes beyond our day to day world, and consists of strange, but yet familiar characters. Her alter ego, Lotta Sweetliv, lives in the films, asking the viewer to follow her. She finds her inspiration in the contrast between Astronomy and urban landscapes, The thought that there is an endless reality beyond our planet, is very inspiring for her.

She would love to see her work appear in public spaces. For example with small-scale projections on a waste bin in the street, or on a carton of milk in the supermarket. Surprising people in the midst of their daily lives through an analog version of augmented reality.
