Ludovic Mercher

Born in: 1970

Ludovic Mercher is a French artist born in 1970. His paintings define the relationship between man and space. His constructions start with a sketch of a landscapes in the boundary of abstraction. The artist lets accidents happen and the vagaries of the painting overlap in the canvas. His geometric elements juxtaposes randomly. The curves of the lanscapes confront strict straight lines of squares and rectangles. The obliques interfere in the canvas, by a movement of instability, and form thus a visual shock. "I voluntary use a palette deprived in my work. With different materials (acrylic paint, Japanese newspapers, Korean paper fiber, metal plates, rust), I confront the straight line to the landscape, sometimes giving it some figurative touches. Influenced by architecture as nature, it is this balance, that I seek on my canvases, the vital space that make us find, betweem material and spirit" declares the artist. Ludovic Mercher exhibits his work reccurently in Paris, Brussels, Bordeaux, Lyon and Strasbourg.
