Presentation

José-Maria David is a French sculptor born in 1944 in Loire Atlantique. He spent his childhood near the Gavre forest. This closeness with nature was one of the reasons why the artist chose this profession. His background is a family of artists and this made him quickly develop his artistic sense. When he grew up, he initially worked as an antique dealer and then worked for Aristote Onassis between 1984 and 1986. This is when he traveled four times around the worked. In 1986, he decided to devote himself to sculpture.

David creates sculpture, his only theme being wild and domestic animals. Today, he is considered to be the unquestioned master of the new animal school. Dr. Hachet, laureate of the Fine Arts academy defined José-Maria David's style as a "consistent bestiary who emanates strength and dynamism".

The artist claims to be quick and capable of creating an entire sculpture in a few hours. José-Maria David's sculptures mostly depict moving animals, in order to make them as "meaningful" as possible. His style is often compared to the wildlife sculptor, Rembrandt Bugatti.
