Biography
Clement Loisel was born in France in 1985; his father, comic author Regis Loisel encourages him very early to start drawing. In 2000 he moved to Montreal with his family, and studied visual and media arts at the University of Quebec in Montreal. He found in the study of the great masters his passion for painting, his favorite medium today. He has met many artists from different genres, and explored performance, music and street theater. Between 2006 and 2009 he co-founded the performance collective "Les P***s socials" and did beatbox with the group Babin et les Chics Clochards. In 2006, he collaborated with Quebec director Yves Desgagnés and produced, with painter Richard Morin, two paintings for the film Romeo and Juliet. In 2010, after his north american experience, he moved to Berlin to get to know the European artistic scene that he had left nine years earlier. Over time, Clement Loisel had shows in different places: in 2011 and 2012 with Brittany collective Körper in the galleries ECC and G-11 in Berlin; the same year, he had his first solo show, "Persona", at the Funf Gallery in Berlin. After two trips to Norway and south-east Asia, new ideas on the time and death appear in his work, which are materialized in 2013 with the series of drawings "Pierres de Patience". This project is presented in November in an exhibition of works on paper at Showroom 52 in the company of artists Noah Metge and Jeremiah Martino.
