Atelier des Beaux-Arts

The École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris (ENSBA), commonly referred to as “the Beaux-Arts de Paris”, is an art school. It is a national public administrative establishment falling directly under the supervision of the State through the intermediary of the ministry in charge of culture. These fine arts were four in number: painting, sculpture, engraving, with architecture until 1968, when the Minister of Culture André Malraux, created eight educational architecture units (UPA) distributed throughout the territory, in response to the academic crisis driven by political conflicts. In doing so, he broke the unity of the disciplines of fine visual arts. Since then, the teaching units have been transformed into national higher schools of architecture (ENSA).
