Nicolas Severine Bernard is a painter, photographer and video director, born on March 10th, 1979 in Rouen where he still lives and works today. He studied woodworking from 1996 to 2000, before joining the Beaux-Arts in Rouen. He graduated in 2006. The same year, Nicolas started working as a photographer for indie label Euro-Vision. He also participated in the design of album covers for Pete Aves and Pop Symphony.
In 2007, won a prize at the Videoformes festival for his movie "Virtual Frenetic Doll". The video was projected at the SCAM (Société civile des auteurs multimédia) in Paris, the University of Clermont-Ferrand and the Sino-European contemporary art Center in Xiamen, China.
The Rouen visual artist established, with three other artists, also Beaux-Arts graduates, the Collective OFF. Together, they show their works in the Espace Géricault in Rouen. In 2008, he has several solo exhibitions in Haute-Normandie, and he showed mostly his paintings. Between 2008 and 2009, Nicolas Severine Bernard dedicates himself to important pictorial projects, he creates the series Diva, Diva II and Sweex. Some of his works are completed in association with the Collective OFF and one of his members, a musician, adds sound to them.
During a personal exhibition at the Vicomté in Rouen, the artist sold the Homo Erectus diptych to a collector from Normandy whoshowed the work in the exhibition of his collection in 2010. During the winter of 2010, Nicolas produced the series “12 boxes of poetry”, which marks a turning point in his esthetic. 2010 is also the year of his second trip to New York, a city that inspired him in his work. Six artworks of the series “12 boxes of poetry” were exhibited from January till March 2011 at the Louis Dreyfus Group's Gallery 89 in Paris.
