Born in 1957 - France
Dominique Clerc lives and works in Paris. He learned photography as an assistant in fashion and advertising. Beside his career, a personal work led to the first series of exhibitions in France and the United States in the 1990s.
He left little by little the studio and started to shoot exterior photographs. By foot or by motorcycle, he explores the suburbs, the countryside or the major ports in the north of France. His trips are in continuation of the books he read during his youth, Kerouac and other travel writers. He photographs nostalgic landscapes, which are intimate and exploring the territories at the same time.
They put photography into question in its relation with objectivity and new technologies. He takes part in the creation of a new language in which the virtual is a layer added on reality, a complex balance to which he adds his personal aesthetic.
This universe is waiting to be discovered. Spectacular but also very introspective, he recounts in his own way the evils and the excesses of our time.
The world continues to accelerate; yet our perception of things responds to ancestral models and does not escape irrationality. It is this emotional dimension which interests Dominique Clerc. His work is situated in an area of subjectivity. How can we express simple things like love, wandering, despair... using more than words? Rivieras, Bluesy, Inner Landscapes, each series of Dominique Clerc's work is an initial response.
