Patrick Chambon

Patrick Chambon was born in Paris but spent his adolescence in the south-east of France to return to Paris after two years at Decorative Arts in Monaco, then Fine Arts in Toulouse and Lorient. He gradually developed a work on the image that recalls, like archaeological soils, the sedimentation from which painting and memory proceed. It was precisely Dubuffet's “soils and texturologies” that fascinated him. The paint and the various materials in which images are superimposed, proliferating on top of each other, then by sanding and clearing the material, manage to make bits of images coexist. For him, it was already the beginning of an editing work that he would continue in his collages and the work of erasing characteristic of his way of using pastel. Interested by the representations which constitute identity, by the sexuality which shapes it, and the childhood theater that he develops (the series of "Children's games" exhibited in Paris and abroad) the work of Patrick Chambon finds correspondences with that of "the analysis of the unconscious": from an image, others come to proliferate by associations of thoughts, reconciliations or formal ruptures, until the ambiguous deformations of the anamorphoses which will form new plastic research from 2009, in particular on the structure of the carpet and the shapes lurking in the image ("Le Divan de Freud" exhibition at the S.Freud Library in Paris, the "Oscar Tapi"). Through the possibility offered by the rapidity of the drawing, the manipulation of the elements, the assembly and the folding of certain parts, the representation zones shape spaces which join together where the scenes swarm that an attentive spectator can catch in the bend. from a point of view.
