Thierry Legrand

French artist, painter and sculptor, born in 1960, trained in arts and decoration. In the years 1980-1990, he signed numerous installations and scenographies. At the same time, his work as a figurative painter evolves, he adopts the wall as a support. Recreated from scratch, these walls allow him to work in his workshop and to be noticed by a few collectors. The artistic approach: A vibration sought beyond the image to question space-time. Art surely began with prints on walls. In the digital age, the gaze of the art lover evolves, the habit acquired of working in layers or filters today transforms the representation we have of space. When I integrate images on the walls that I am reconstructing, I create a carnal connection with this wall. Through my use of the material, I make traces and imprints. In addition, the reconstruction of wall fragments in the studio space induces the obligation of a border between real space and fictitious space. I am preparing a meeting, a face to face meeting which tends to identify with the wall. I put in my volumes a lot of elements that go in a sense, towards the effect of reality. All this plastic and graphic work which must prevent the image from appearing parachuted into a process which aims to physically blend the image into the wall. I make the wall rebuilt part of the way, treating it both as a plastic material (texture, color, material), as a painter and a sculptor, hoping to reinvent things that cannot be seen that are imagined! A story, a wall. I will summarize my work as follows: it is a piece of reconstructed reality in which elements of fiction slip. I try to create (paths, vibrations, images) elements which aim to question this space, a surface of reconstructed stones a support which wants to be real. Thierry legrand
