François Glineur

Born in: 1973

Francois Glineur is a French artist born in 1973. He lives and works in Amiens.

His work reflects a struggle, a fierce battle with painting for the triumph the representation. His shapes and colors are covered by paint and redrawn again and again in order to create the image that he wants, the best possible version of the painting all the while refusing any element of elegance or that would want to seduce the viewer.

Francois Glineur is one of those painters who cannot be happy with a pretty image, who distrust “pretty”, deeming it too easy if it is too stylish and attractive. Even in his way of covering the canvas, he brings up this notion of dialectic, of composition where the elements are in conflict, whether it be the paint or the curved line of the drawing, the background or the surface.

The characters are in a fight that nobody will win. Everything is balanced in the final result and this tension dominates the pictorial space.
