Marion Legouy

Marion Legouy paints upon the world’s pages. A graduate of the Beaux-Arts of Paris, her expertise as an engraver has left her with a love of paper permeated by ink. Growing up in a flat on the Place de la Bastille nourished her predilection for urban spaces rich in history and poetry.

Newspaper texts mutate into painting, painting into weaving, weaving into topography. The artist makes and unmakes her work, transforms its space, removes material, adds air. The woven pieces are stretched like canvases or else suspended so that they sway in the wind like sails. The work’s texture encompasses the fleeting titles of current events and vibrates with the movements of the world.
