Presentation

Chimeras, critters, humans and other personified icons are offered in colorful compositions rich in symbolism. Doudoudidon is a paleographer of painting who opens up an empirical plastic world to us, which at the same time jostles, disturbs, fascinates and moves.

Experimentation transpires in each of the rooms, a well-established iconographic system covers the furniture and the walls. Doudoudidon is a self-taught artist, free from any artistic code or canon. A sort of unclassifiable Arzour who is inspired only by what he has in him to create. Creative and original par excellence, he quickly shows a personality and a singularity in his pictorial work. Pushing the imagination to expression media: canvas, cardboard, medical x-rays, book pages, offset printing CTP plates. So many unusual supports chosen by Doudoudidon to express himself.

A lifelong illustrator, artistic director of an advertising agency for many years, Loïc Tarin, with his true identity, gave up everything following a meeting with a unique art collector to become “Doudoudidon”. Pseudonym naturally borrowed from his childhood years. Very quickly spotted, appreciated, awarded with an American Art Prize in 2016, the artist embarked on the visual arts full time. What motivates him is to succeed in transcribing his emotions and reaching people.

Juggling media into discoveries, Doudoudidon has fun recreating the semblance of characters straight out of the Middle Ages, Papuans, imaginary bugs that blend into unstructured and strange worlds. These scenes are always colorful and provided with symbolism. Doudoudidon does not hide his love for iconographic and medieval art, he is very fervently inspired by them to embark us in a disturbing imagination at times, poetic and on edge at times, but especially on the tone such endearing good humor in this mischievous artist.

Born in 1974 in Dinan, Doudoudidon lives and works in Saint-Brieuc.

He won first prize in the “art brut” category at the 2016 American Art Awards.
