Toussaint Mufraggi

Toussaint Mufraggi began seriously the practice of drawing and painting in the early 70s. Due to the lack of structures in the field of Fine Arts education in Corsica, he trained himself by study of masters and works through documents available on site. Having neither the will nor the need to go to train elsewhere, he remained in Corsica where all his creation takes place. At the beginning his work uses the figurative representation that he treats in an expressionist way, seeking to translate through landscapes and bucolic scenes, the sensations and memories of his childhood which took place largely in the territory of Villanova d 'where his family is from. Having lived in these places the last moments of agro-pastoral life soaked in the traditions of the 19th century, he was deeply marked, hence the importance he gives to the role of his childhood. From this period, he will keep the taste of freedom, of the role of mystery, of noises, of smells, of the communion of man with the wild beauty of nature, of the simple life, of the attachment to values. essential and rooting in its land. He will translate this dazzling into a colorful, expressive and lyrical painting fixing the vision of a world that was disappearing. From the 80s, he will enter his abstract period which marks his interest in American painting: Rothko, De Kooning, Motherwell. This painting will allow him to continue to maintain, with the sensations of childhood, a very strong emotional relationship by adding his new experiences and his references to metamorphoses, to the founding myths of Mediterranean civilization.
