Presentation

Elia Kleiber was born in Colmar, between the Rhine river and the Vosges mountains, and this landscape has been his environment during his childhood, like the colors of Grunewald or Schoengauer. Elia Kleiber lives and works in Ivry-sur-Seine, France. She studied at the Ecole supérieure des arts décoratifs in Strasbourg (which later became the Haute Ecole des Arts du Rhin), then she studied with Jean Elton at the Montparnasse Academy of the City of Paris. She also received the friendly support of Antoine de Margerie.

She paints and has numerous initiatives for cultural actions, including workshops for young people, in different museums. She was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship and stayed in the United States in 1978, and then travelled and stayed for a while in the Middle East.

Elia Kleiber's research focuses on the tension between line and color, regardless of the medium, style or technique: the opaque or the transparent, painting or photography, that she often associates in her works. it is also a transversal issue in ger work, no matter her subject: portrait, urban landscapes, car fires, highways...

From this tension is also comes, from a certain point, her attraction for calligraphy. Or a tropism reminding Adami or Richard Lindner. The canvas is for her a precise geography, subverted, overwhelmed and swept by the brush, in a constant negotiation between the painting and the frame.
