Dim

France  • 1990

Presentation

Dim's creative process is born spontaneously from a sound, an image, an atmosphere, a scene then appears to him extremely precisely, often in the form of a photograph.

His obsession then consists in transcribing this scene as faithfully as possible, it is this need for accuracy that directs his work towards photorealism. Besides precision, the spectator's immersion in his universe is his primary ambition; This is why Dim attaches great importance to the composition of the scenes, to the play of light, to the points of view, thus creating a cinematographic aspect in his works.

The subtle play of contrast between blur and sharpness is an integral part of his work, it creates a relief which also accentuates the feeling of immersion. By fusing dreamlike and photographic effects, Dim illustrates the imagination in a fantasized reality, which makes his style seem like photorealistic surrealism.

His universe reflects his personality, materialized by works with strong imagery where satire and black humor sometimes intersect. These canvases are imbued with poetry and an omnipresent mystery, which leaves room for different interpretations. It is an Art of its time, resolutely modern.
