Machado-Rico was born and lived for 20 years in North Africa. A graduate of the Union Centrale des Arts Décoratifs school in Paris, she worked in advertising graphics and illustration. Machado-Rico also studied contemporary lacquer techniques followed by etching, metal engraving, lithography, textiles and high-warp tapestry. After a few professional years in advertising design and illustration, she devoted herself to painting and extended her work as a painter with more and more forays into sculpture, made of polychrome papier mâché, resin and wood assemblies. His work is exhibited regularly in galleries in Paris and in the provinces. It can be found in private and public collections in France and abroad. "I want the images to celebrate, that they bring to our eyes the strange and the marvelous". In this infinitely dreamlike, solar and vegetal universe, each motif is designed according to the promise of happiness it constitutes. The hands are sometimes loaded with hearts, the eyes often transformed into flowers. Becoming aware of its fragility, however persevering in the desire to sing about the happiness of existing, such could be a definition of Machado's work. - F. Monnin
