Presentation

Born in Neuilly-sur-Seine in 1948, he lives and works in Paris. The logic of Charles-Henri Monvert's paintings is based on the development, from an initial grid, of a structural combination of infinite variations. The work is developed according to a process of braiding, of overlaps, which brings into interference several superimposed time planes and layers. Each new layer, at the same time as it covers the old one, keeps the memory of the original grid by impregnation. From the initial pure white to the final structuring, a whole visual range is built, a keyboard of values, tones and grains, thickness, mattness, a frame that makes visible, through the resurgence of lines of force, the tensions internal to the board. An infinitesimal relief emerges, a real fabric within the fabric. This ability to memorize and alter allows us to confront an immutable structure and its multiple metamorphoses. Here logic and intuition come together; each work bears within it the mark of becoming and of the random. His work is in the collections of the MAC / VAL in Vitry-sur-Seine, the Museum of the Castle of the Dukes of Wurtemberg in Montbéliard, the FRAC Alsace in Sélestat and the FRAC Bretagne in Rennes, the Mamco, Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Geneva...
