Presentation

In the beginning the color, then the gesture, its trace is imprinted and lets itself be covered with prints from elsewhere. The superposition of colored fields, in flat tints and transparencies, guides me in a process of construction - deconstruction, in search of space and light. The painting is created by sedimentation, strata by strata, like an interior landscape nourished by subtle materials. My subject is painting itself, in search of its own space. - Fabienne Mary Formation Ateliers des Beaux arts de Rouen with Jean Pierre Bourquin Workshop of Daniel Lacomme (former professor at the Beaux Arts in Paris) The abstract and lyrical painting of Fabienne Mary, with her wide-angle vision, brings a breath of fresh air to abstract art. In her acrylic paintings as in her collages on paper, the bright colors, both aerial and rooted, find their balance because she knows how to stop her creativity at the right time. Our eye crosses non-figurative landscapes and can retrace the artist's journey, layer after layer. Fabienne Mary takes pleasure in constructing the space of the canvas with her brushstrokes, her sculptor's gestures who fabricate a different reality. His work, sensual and metaphysical, opens our eyes to what art means and allows us to recreate this moment when the artist experienced the intense joy of discovery. - Nabil Naoum, Egyptian Author (Translated from English by Véronique Maupas-Maillart) There is an imagination of matter. Fabienne Mary's collages find their source and their resolution in the imagination that matter arouses. The materials first - Chinese papers, inks, or very fluid or almost dry, paints and pigments - then the play of stains, graphics, writings, the spaces revealed by the bringing together of the torn fragments, recut, sometimes in monotypes produced according to free gestures and recomposed in the form of suites, to constitute surprising "artist's books", in which the text, when there is any, does not elucidate any of these abstractions, but always contributes to the character poetic of this approach. These rich and enigmatic images exert an inexplicable fascination, as no reference to a known topology is possible, the freedom of invention towards a purely plastic effect playing alone, but for a surprise and an ever-renewed intellectual satisfaction. - Daniel Lacomme, January 2015, Author of the collection “L'atelier vivant”, former professor at the School of Fine Arts in Paris
