Claire de Virieu had an emotional relationship with nature and the very strong desire to re-transcribe this emotion. Gardens are a subject in which there is no artifice and the photograph does not interfere. The essential element is simply in the observation, in waiting for the magical moment where the light creates the image, or the garden reveals a piece of its soul.
As her teacher and friend, Edouard Boubat, said, "Photography can appear to be done with ease, but what is clear is that we must let everything go that does not belong to us... and those who possess the gift must immerse themselves in its music."
Each garden is a universe unto itself. She loves to follow its seasonal metamorphoses and often realize the repetitions that occur over a period of one or two years, whether in public spaces such as The Alhambra or the Luxembourg Gardens, or in private gardens such as Majorelle or the private gardens of Mr. and Mrs. Pinault.
