Presentation

Marvin Aillaud is a French artist born in 1987. He is graduated from the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he had James as a teacher.

Marvin Aillaud's paintings translate a very particular attachment to his subjects, whose condition he presents all the while trying to spare them from an "exposure" that might hurt them. It is an ambiguous artistic endeavor, as is the fleeting vision we have of these figures.

At first, Marvin Aillaud photographs instants. For him, this medium captures reality stealing the subject's identity. With painting, his goal is to set it free again. He uses the blur to make anonymous children living in the streets, immigrants, homeless people. After representing the subject realistically, Marvin Aillaud deletes the paint little by little in order to create new surfaces fragmenting the image.

His characters become fragmented silhouettes, dark, between bright and neon colors. The composition is hidden this way. Our eye tries to see the faces and the poses disappear in a vaoprous, almost fantomatic atmosphere.
