Presentation

Claudia Barsus is a protean French painter who practices photography, collage, drawing and a combination of techniques. She started working in advertising and then dedicated completely to art. In 2005, she opened her studio in Ile-de-France, where she currently works.

She photographs Paris, Marseille, Naples, Rome, London, New York, Buenos Aires, the Java Islands, Sri Lanka, Uruguay, Denmark and Senegal. Thanks to her numerous journeys around the world, she developed a fascination for the city. The energy emited by those metropolises has become her main source of inspiration for its tags, graffitis, and posters. It was in 2000 in New York that she had an aesthetic revelation: she was fascinated by the graffiti and the big posters on the walls of the city. Her universe was deeply marked with this discovery. This encourage her to develop her own combination of media and upcycling technique, mixing aerosol, stencil, dripping, laceration and collage on the same canvas. She fixes them, mixes them on a varity of supports such as cardboard, wood, canvas or steel, creating a urban and sensitive imagery. In parallel, the artist also takes time to make portraits on the subject of femininity, an approach that stimulates her creative power.

In 2009, Claudia Barsus donated a piece for an auction sale to the profit of the Anaëlle Association. The artist exhibits her work mainly in France. In 2012, she presented for the first time, her big format pièces in a Belgian gallery. The same year, her pieces were selected by the Barclays Bank for an exhibition.
