Nicolas de Montaigut

Nicolas is 44 years old, he is married and a father. He lives and works in Paris. Fascinated by photography for a long time, he dedicates himself to it more and more over time in parallel with his professional activity in Finance.

Long-term traveler since his youngest age, he sees himself as a privileged witness of the « somewhere else » and the « others ». His photos are before anything else a testimony of the diversity; they are sometimes stolen, taken most of the time on the spot and very rarely built.

" LEVER LES YEUX " (raise the eyes) in the Gallery Le Pari (s) Urbain (51 rue de l’Echiquier, Paris 10th district) is its second personal exhibition. Laurence Esnol Gallery gave him, his first opportunity to present his work to the public in November, 2012.

The exhibition invites us to rediscover our daily environment with a new eye. Through around thirty urban photos, taken in every corner of Paris but also in New York, Dubai, Rome, Palermo or Yaoundé, Nicolas claims his city-dweller's status and presents us "our" city under unusual angles, zooming on details seaming harmless and sometimes with humour.

The second degree is never far and the light plays a central role. Very graphic, his photos often offer an overlapping of plans and a multiplication of details. Making the idea that the beautiful images are made often at the street corner, if we take the time to « raise the eyes »…
