Born in 1921 in Vincennes, to Russian and Polish Jewish parents who emigrated to France, after the war she continued her studies in chemistry at the same time, while devoting herself to painting. Full character, endearing, “Independent, provocative, festive, she lives freely. Short hair, suit, jacket, cigarette, intimidating figure. »In the 1950s, she welcomed young German students to whom she introduced Paris. She meets Serge Poliakoff in a bar in Pigalle where he plays the guitar and quickly becomes good friends. He lives in rue de Seine and she in rue Madame, they see each other every day and even make music together until Poliakoff's death in 1965. Emancipated woman, with fierce energy, she is condemned to rest and to a calm life made up of restricted gestures following a car accident the same year. She then works on paper, crumples it, glues it to make books-objects such as The Book of Ah (1965 - 1967). “I explored illogicality to the point of disarray,” she notes. In 1971, learning of the death of his daughter, without knowing that the latter had committed suicide, Pavlowsky put an end to his life. “Her work today proves that she knew how to move from lyricism to rigor, from anguish to structure, from feeling to symphony. »- Jean-Dominique Rey.
