Presentation
Born in 1990 in Paris, Yann Houri is a French painter-sculptor. He lives and works in Paris.
In search of a language between matter, color and movement, his works present complex (de) structured compositions. Driven by a spontaneous and intuitive energy, Yann Houri's work resists easy characterization.
He devotes a large part of his thought to the lived experience and refuses to foresee anything. "I want to discover what I'm doing the moment I create it, all the excitement of painting is in the unexpected". His works show both abstract forms and more densely layered images in which figurative elements can be discerned.
The artist, attached to contrasts, seeks to combine representation and abstraction, linear perspective and coloring, minimalism and gestural painting. Her meticulous approach is geared towards a creative process that openly highlights the contrast between success and failure inevitably associated with her practice. He then seeks to create a tension between control and chaos, repetition and conciseness.
There is an alliance between construction and destruction, set in motion by a material that seems to be in motion. For Yann Houri, the work is a discourse between the conscious and the unconscious and only takes on meaning in the viewer's free interpretation. "A work of art is a place of meeting and sharing, it only exists and lives through the mind of the spectator."
His work is therefore constantly evolving through the interactions he sets up with others. As a result, each of his creations is the fruit of his free imagination and the constant search for new techniques, expressions of his perception of evolution.
Through the movement and materialization of color, Yann Houri sculpts painting beyond its classic physical properties and transforms matter into emotions. Driven by a desire to take this approach further, his practice has today freed itself from the traditional support of the canvas.
Traditional forms have given way to deformity. Today, the medium is built intuitively, as spontaneously as the application of material and color. He paints according to his intuition, exiled in the world of his emotions.
Freed from all constraints of form and thought, he puts his work at the service of freedom. He chooses an approach without preconceptions and does not plan his work in advance. Simply guided by his instinct, it allows him to be constantly evolving. Knowing that he paints several works at the same time, his works communicate with each other without interruption. The material and the colors pass from one work to another in a random way under the impulse of the present moment.
This communication between his works is vital, like the exchanges between human beings. For the artist, his works only come to life and reveal their full meaning through the gaze of the spectator who is invited to escape into his imagination as he walks.
