Born in 1951 - France
Before beginning his career as a professional photographer in 1979 and opening the graphic design agency Deltair, Dominique Perreau was taking his first shots, in the 1960s, with a Kodak camera with no settings; this is how he learned, as a kid, to favor the strength of the subject, as he couldn't control lighting anyway with such a camera or with more sensitive film.
At an early age, he took thousands of photographs on reversible film (diapositive) that wouldn't allow any editing of the image, and learned this way the subtleties of composition and how to capture the fleeting instant. For many years, Dominique Perreau used hilometers of film, until he mastered the technique, forgot it and finally transgressed it.
Today all his photographs, analogue or digital, are inhabited by the same stregth of the unique instant, with no editing, as precise as the art of calligraphy.
He is a nomad and traveled many continents to discover animistic people for who the power of the Dream is fundamental. The people he encountered determined the reflection he wants to provoke by placing the imaginary at the center of traditional universal values.
Today, Dominique Perreau stays engaged in an artistic approach close to his work on spirituality, through traditional symbols. His blurred images ("Flou sur point fixe", that invite and make easier to go beyond a first level of vision) as well as his "Pastels" (emotional leftovers of a sensitive reality) are pure photographic techniques, with no editing, that he develops in his own way, bringing together poetry and magic.
