Michel Chambon

The painting of the French artist Michel Chambon develops in curves, in subtlety, in sensuality and in voluptuousness. Initiated at a very young age to pictorial practice in his father's studio, the artist later discovered during a trip to Paris the French movement CoBrA or the International of Experimental Artists (IAE) created in 1948 in reaction to the quarrel between abstraction and figuration. Later, the artist developed a passion for the Primitive Arts and the painting of the expressionists, contrasted, violent, dazzling. From there, Michel Chambon built a singular practice, at the border of several techniques and several philosophies. He then nourished an interest in the search for colors, deep, intense hues, for the form of the arabesque, suggestive, almost carnal and for the refined line, the minimalist gesture. Taking an interest in the precepts of the Fauves, like them he developed a formal, constructive and emotional conception of color. His subjects, free, are then the place of an experience of matter and shapes, collages, crumpled paper. Refusing the too academic and too reductive opposition between figurative painting and abstract painting, Michel Chambon created a sort of "dream realism", trying to materialize and capture the psychic world, that of esotericism and imagination. There, silhouettes of women, pleasure, sensuality, euphoria and passion mix their energies in a great whirlwind.
